The Monster

(131 Ratings)
A West Village institution

Walk in at street level to the piano bar/lounge which retains its historic charm. Don't let the vintage decor discourage you, pull up a stool and the friendly crowd and fun singers will have you hooked. For a change of pace, work your way downstairs to find drag shows and a dance floor.

not very pretty.

the staff is very nice and the place brings back nice memories of my youth; but 3 visits within a week promised that the crowd is nothing like it was in its hayday. in 2006 it reminds me more of Nathan's 'birdcage' than the hot bar i remember. SPLASH down the street was the place for the hot guys to hang out.
